ASTM A671 EFW Pipes

ASTM A671 EFW Pipes

ASTM A671 EFW Pipes, Standard Designation for Electric-Fusion-Welded Steel Pipe for Atmospheric and Lower Temperatures. Grades shall designate the type of plate used while class shall designate the type of heat treatment performed during pipe manufacture.
ASTM A671 EFW pipes undergo several tests like Hydrostatic testing or Ultrasonic examination, Eddy current testing, and NDT. Besides these tests, the A671 pipe’s physical and chemical properties are inspected.
Heat treatment may or may not be required to procure the desired properties or to comply with applicable code requisites. Supplementary requisites are provided for use when adscititious testing or examination is desired. Albeit the cost of the carbon predicated ASTM A671 EFW Pipes grades are low, the metal still offers quite a few plausible properties. For instance, the ASTM A671 EFW Pipes have excellent tensile vigor and ductility properties.
A671 and A672 are EFW (Electric-Fusion Welded) Carbon Steel Pipes used for atmospheric and lower temperatures applications (A671) and high-pressure service at moderate temperatures (A672).

As mentioned above, ASTM A671 EFW Pipes is used for atmospheric and lower temperature applications and ASTM A672 EFW Pipes is used for high-pressure service applications at moderate temperature. However, if we compare the details e.g. A672 Gr.C60 & A671 Gr. CC60; the raw material plate used is the same for both pipes & the final mechanical properties are the same. Heat treatment is the same. The only difference between the 2 grades is only in the testing requirements. ASTM A672 EFW Pipes requires a weld sample drawn from a 500ft length of pipe and allows you to double the samples in case, the original sample fails. ASTM A671 EFW Pipes requires a weld sample drawn from a 200ft length of pipe with no provision for the rejected weld.
